The Birth Recovery Practice

The Birth Recovery Practice is a collaboration between Lara Taylor, Expert Specialist Midwife, and Miriam, a Pelvic Health Physiotherapist and Rehabilitation Specialist. Together we provide a level of postnatal care that brings both clinical midwifery expertise and specialist physical recovery support into one integrated service.

Our work is centred around a simple belief: a mother’s recovery after birth matters deeply.

While pregnancy and birth often receive significant attention, the weeks following birth can feel unexpectedly unsupported. Many women are left navigating physical recovery, feeding, emotional adjustment and the demands of caring for a newborn with very little guidance.

Through the Birth Recovery Practice, we offer thoughtful, personalised care that focuses on both mother and baby, helping women understand their recovery, rebuild confidence in their body, and feel supported during one of the most transformative periods of life.

Recovery After Caesarean Birth and Complex Birth

Some births require additional support during recovery,  whether due to caesarean birth, assisted birth, significant tearing, postpartum complications, or a physically and emotionally demanding birth experience.

These experiences can leave women feeling unsure about what is normal, how to move safely, or how to begin recovering their strength and confidence.  Our C-section and complex birth recovery support combines specialist midwifery care with expert physical rehabilitation to support mothers through the early weeks after birth.

Together we provide guidance that supports both healing and understanding.

Support may include:

• Preparation for planned caesarean birth

• Early postnatal recovery following caesarean, complex or assisted birth

• Scar and wound assessment and care

• Support with movement, mobility and protecting the abdomen and pelvic floor

• Comfortable positioning for feeding and caring for your baby

• Gentle recovery exercises to support strength and mobility

• Education around safe return to activity

• Birth reflection and emotional support following a difficult birth

Our aim is to ensure that mothers feel informed, supported and confident in their recovery, rather than feeling they are expected to simply “bounce back” after birth.

Support takes place in the comfort of your home during the early days.
