Postnatal-Care

The Fourth Trimester

This is where my real passion for midwifery lies.

In my professional journey as a Midwife, I have become increasingly aware of the lack of care, support and education for new parents. I have seen how this is this impacting families and women with their recovery, not only in the immediate postpartum period but in the years following.

I’m often told by new parents that they felt so unprepared for the immediate time after birth and the first few days with baby. Being at home with a new baby can be a totally overwhelming time and the anxieties that come with that being huge.  Our expectations are usually so very far away from the reality, and so the first thing I can do is help you prepare for the early days, creating a calm, stress free home environment, fully equipped for your optimal recovery.

So with this in mind, I work to provide the highest standard of evidence based care, giving information, reassurance and support, centred around individual needs. I take a full body holistic approach to support those in my care, focusing on emotional, physical, psychological, spiritual and cultural needs of families as well as educate around the practicalities of becoming a parent.

Enhanced Postnatal Care

The postpartum period is considered one of the most vulnerable and physically trying times in a woman’s life, as the transition from birth to the 4th trimester and parenthood takes place. My aim is to provide you and your family with a positive postnatal experience, enabling you to navigate the transition to parenthood with knowledge and confidence, as well as trust in your body and the recovery process.

The first weeks as a family are a time of change and learning, for new parents and for your baby. Physical and emotional changes are prevalent as you navigate parenting, and so i’m here to support you and help relieve any anxieties and worries, so you can enjoy the start to your parenting journey.

Postnatal planning is key and a perfect place for your journey with me to start.  Being prepared is one of the most important things you can do for you as parents, your baby and for your support network. Together we'll look at those first few weeks in depth, focusing on your recovery, where you need help as well as give you an in depth understanding of your babies needs as you navigate the early days of parenting. And if you wish, we can help get breastfeeding off to the very best start.

Postnatal planning is a way to identify your wishes, requests, boundaries and support system after the baby arrives. The first few days with baby can be exhausting on so many levels, so setting up a basic framework with rules, roles and expectations can help with the transition into parenthood. It will benefit not only you and your baby, but your support network too. Grandparents and other members of your support network are welcome too!

What we look at together:

Feeding: exploring the options

Home preparation for baby & Equipment

Nourishment and meal planning

Your support network and delegating roles

Visitors planning

Welcoming your baby home

Your recovery in the first 72 hours

Understanding your sleep needs

The first 72 hours with your baby
